چکیده

The rapid growth in population and industrialization cause generation of large quantities of effluents. The bulk effluents generated from industrial activities are discharged either treated or untreated over the soil leading to changes in soil properties causing improvement or degradation of engineering behaviour of soil. If there is an improvement in engineering behaviour of soil, there is a value addition to the industrial wastes serving the three benefits of safe disposal of effluent, using as a stabilizer and return of income on it. If there is degradation of engineering behaviour of soil then solution for decontamination is to be obtained. Hence an attempt is made in this investigation to study the effect of certain Industrial effluents such as Textile effluent, Tannery effluent and Battery effluent on the California Bearing Ratio Value of an expansive soil.

Behavior of Flexible Pavements on Expansive Soils

This investigation discusses the findings on analysis results of a pavement structure constructed on a relatively expansive material consisting mainly of brown clayey silt in Tebessa, Algeria. Cores were brought to the laboratory from a piece of roadwork. Remolded samples were taken from subgrade of a deteriorated road. The soils were generally found to be of medium plasticity and of a medium t...

Stimulation Behaviour Study on Clay Treated with Ground Granulated Blast Slag and Groundnutshell Ash

The major decision in construction process involves the selection of suitable site with best soil conditions, as structure resides in the soil. Most problematic soils like expansive soils hardly proved to be the best engineering subgrade profile for pavement constructions. Thus, this has undeniably led to the soil improvement options accompanying the reduction in resource depletion and solid wa...

Numerical Investigation of Subgrade Reaction Coefficient in Sand Soils of Bandar Abbas City

The soil-foundation interaction is one of the most important issues in geotechnical engineering that deals with studying the soil behavior subjected to the side loading. Winkler’s model is the first and simplest method for consideration of the soil-foundation interaction. It is vitally important to determine the coefficient of subgrade reaction of the soil. Since several methods have been prov...

Evaluating the Performance of Rehabilitated Roadway Base with Geogrid Reinforcement in the Presence of Soil-Geogrid-Interaction

One of the efficient techniques to improve the behavior of the paved road under traffic loads is implementing the geosynthetic material in the sub-base or the soil under the road. In the past years, many researches have been done about this topic, but the study on the effect of soil/load conditions on the performance of the rehabilitated paved road by geogrid in order to investigate the effecti...

The Correlation between the CBR and Shear Strength in Unsaturated Soil Conditions

In pavement design, the CBR and direct shear tests are two very common laboratory investigations for predicting the strength of a subgrade layer. The relationship between the CBR and water content has been commonly presented in analyses, with the result of the direct shear being expressed from the aspect of effective cohesion and the internal friction angle. Even though most natural soil is in...
